Breeder Code of Ethics

Last updated: September 3, 2026

American Bully Haven Pups LLC is committed to ethical, responsible breeding of the American Bully. Our Code of Ethics defines the principles that guide every decision we make — from health testing and socialization to placement and lifetime support. We hold ourselves to these standards because the well-being of our dogs and the trust of the families we serve come before anything else.

1. Our Commitment

We are a small, home-based American Bully breeding program in Austin, Texas. We breed with intention, not for volume, and we treat every dog in our care as a member of our family.

Our goal is to preserve and improve the American Bully breed through ethical breeding practices that prioritize health, temperament, and conformation above all else.

This Code of Ethics is a public statement of our standards. We welcome questions about any aspect of our practices from prospective families, regulators, and the broader community.

2. Breeding Practices

We breed the American Bully with intention — selecting pairings for health, temperament, and conformation, never for volume or novelty alone. Every litter is planned with a clear purpose, and we breed only when we are confident we can improve the breed.

We limit the number of litters we raise each year so that every puppy receives the individual attention, handling, and socialization that produce a confident, well-adjusted companion.

We do not breed any dog before it has passed all required health screenings, and we retire breeding dogs at an appropriate age to ensure their well-being.

3. Health Testing & Genetic Screening

Every dog in our breeding program is health-tested before being paired. This includes OFA or PennHIP evaluations for hips and elbows, cardiac screening, and DNA profiling for known hereditary conditions in the American Bully breed.

We will not breed a dog that does not meet our health standard. Any dog that fails a health screening is removed from our breeding program and placed in a loving pet home.

We maintain full, honest records of every parent's health clearances and share them openly with prospective families upon request.

4. Socialization & Rearing

Our puppies are born and raised in our home, not in a kennel. From the neonatal period through placement, they are handled daily and exposed to the everyday sights, sounds, and routines of family life.

We follow a structured socialization and enrichment program so that each puppy develops the confidence and resilience that define a well-adjusted American Bully.

Puppies are exposed to children, other dogs, and a variety of environments and experiences to prepare them for life in their new homes.

5. Placement Standards

We place our puppies only with families we believe are prepared to provide a lifelong, loving home. We ask questions, and we answer yours, because the right match matters more than a quick sale.

We reserve the right to decline a placement if, in our judgment, the home is not suitable for an American Bully or is not in the best interest of the puppy.

No puppy leaves our care before eight (8) weeks of age, and only after a veterinary health check and age-appropriate vaccinations are complete.

6. Transparency & Documentation

Every puppy is placed with ABKC and UKC registration papers, a complete health record, a written placement agreement, a full 5-generation pedigree, and our two-year genetic health guarantee. There are no hidden terms and no missing paperwork.

We disclose any known health concern openly and in writing before placement, and we encourage families to ask any question at any time.

Our pricing is transparent and consistent. We do not use hidden fees or pressure tactics.

7. Lifetime Support & Rehoming

Our responsibility does not end at placement. We remain available to every family for the life of their dog — for questions, milestones, and any concern, large or small.

If circumstances ever prevent a family from keeping a dog we have bred, we will always take that dog back, no questions asked. We never want one of our dogs to enter a shelter or rescue.

We maintain a lifetime commitment to every puppy we place, and we are available as a resource for our families for as long as they have their dog.

8. Advertising & Marketing Ethics

We represent our puppies honestly in all advertising and communications. We do not exaggerate breed characteristics, guarantee adult size or appearance, or make claims we cannot support.

All photographs on our website and in our marketing materials are authentic representations of our dogs and puppies. We do not use stock images or misleading photos.

We comply with all applicable advertising laws and platform policies, including Google Ads policies, and we do not engage in deceptive or misleading marketing practices.

9. Regulatory Compliance

We comply with all applicable federal, state, and local animal welfare regulations, and we maintain the licensing and record-keeping required of a responsible breeding program in Texas.

We follow the standards set by the American Bully Kennel Club (ABKC) and the United Kennel Club (UKC) for breeding and registration.

We welcome transparency about our practices and are happy to provide documentation of our compliance to any prospective family.

10. Continuing Education

We are committed to ongoing education about canine health, genetics, and breeding practices. We stay informed about advances in veterinary medicine and breed-specific health concerns.

We participate in the broader breeder community and support efforts to improve the health and well-being of the American Bully breed.

11. Changes to This Code

We may update this Code of Ethics from time to time to reflect our evolving practices and standards. The 'Last updated' date at the top of this page indicates when the code was last revised.
