Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about the American Bully and about adopting a puppy from American Bully Haven Pups — from the breed itself to the first days at home and a lifetime of support.

About the American Bully

What is an American Bully?

The American Bully is a companion breed developed in the 1990s from the American Pit Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier, bred for a muscular, compact build paired with a gentle, family-friendly temperament. They are confident, affectionate, and deeply loyal to their people.

What sizes do American Bullies come in?

The breed is recognized in four types — Pocket, Standard, Classic, and XL. Our program focuses on Standard and Pocket types, bred for balanced conformation, a sound structure, and a stable, even temperament.

Are American Bullies good family dogs?

Yes. The breed is known for its affectionate, people-oriented nature. Our dogs are specifically bred and home-raised for a stable, gentle temperament that suits families with children, first-time owners, and experienced handlers alike.

How big do American Bullies get?

Size varies by type. Standard males typically stand 17–20 inches at the withers and females 16–19 inches, with weight varying according to build. Pocket types are slightly smaller. We are happy to discuss the expected adult size of any specific puppy.

What is the lifespan of an American Bully?

With proper care, nutrition, and regular veterinary attention, an American Bully typically lives 10 to 14 years. Health-tested parents and a strong start in life are the foundation of a long, healthy life.

The Adoption Process

How do I adopt an American Bully puppy from you?

Start by browsing our available puppies and sending an inquiry. We then begin a personal conversation about your home, experience, and the temperament you are seeking, and we recommend the puppy we believe is the right match. A written agreement and deposit hold your puppy until they are ready to come home at eight weeks or older.

At what age do puppies go home?

Our puppies join their families at no fewer than eight weeks of age, once they are weaned, socialized, and cleared by our veterinarian. We never place a puppy before they are developmentally ready.

How long is the wait for a puppy?

It depends on our current and planned litters. Some puppies are available immediately, while others may require joining our waitlist for a future litter. We will always be honest with you about timing and never overpromise.

Do you have a waitlist?

Yes. If no available puppy is the right match for your family, you can join our waitlist to be notified when a suitable puppy is born or becomes available. Waitlist families are contacted in order as litters arrive.

How do you match a puppy to my family?

We spend time understanding your lifestyle, experience, children, and other pets, then recommend the puppy whose temperament fits your home — not simply the one that catches your eye. The right match is the foundation of a lifelong bond.

Can I choose any puppy I want?

The final choice is always yours, but we will honestly advise against a match we believe will not thrive in your home. Our goal is a successful, lifelong placement, not a quick sale.

Do you sell puppies for breeding?

Our puppies are placed as companions on spay/neuter agreements. Breeding rights are considered only in rare, vetted cases with experienced, ethical programs and are never the default.

Health & Guarantee

Are your dogs health-tested?

Yes. Every parent in our program is health-tested before being paired, including OFA evaluations for hips and elbows, cardiac (heart) screening, and DNA profiling. We share these clearances openly with prospective families.

What health guarantee is included?

Every puppy is placed with a written two-year genetic health guarantee, full vaccination and deworming records, ABKC and UKC registration papers, and a microchip registered to you. Full terms are described in our Health Guarantee page.

Do puppies come vaccinated and dewormed?

Yes. Your puppy will be up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming at the time of placement, and a complete, signed health record travels with them.

Are puppies microchipped?

Yes. A permanent microchip is implanted and registered to you before your puppy goes home, providing identification for life.

What health testing do the parents have?

Our breeding dogs carry OFA hip and elbow evaluations, cardiac clearance, and verified DNA profiles. We maintain full records and are happy to share them with serious prospective families.

Payment & Pricing

How much is an American Bully puppy?

Pricing varies by puppy and is listed transparently on each puppy's profile. There are no hidden fees; the price you see is the price you pay.

Is a deposit required to reserve a puppy?

Yes. A deposit reserves a specific puppy and is applied toward the purchase price. Deposit terms are detailed in our written agreement and refund policy.

Is the deposit refundable?

Because a deposit holds a specific puppy and removes them from the market, refund terms are limited and are clearly outlined in our written agreement and Refund & Return Policy. We encourage you to review them before reserving.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept major payment methods through our secure checkout. We confirm accepted methods and any payment-plan options during your adoption conversation.

Are payment plans available?

In some cases we can arrange a payment plan so the balance is paid in full before your puppy goes home. Ask us during your inquiry and we will discuss what is possible.

Shipping & Delivery

Do you ship puppies?

Yes. We personally coordinate in-person pickup, climate-controlled ground transport, and pet-safe air travel within the continental United States, each with a veterinary health certificate. Full details are in our Shipping & Delivery policy.

Where are you located?

We are located in Austin, Texas. Families are welcome to collect their puppy in person by appointment at 1428 Meadowlark Lane, Austin, TX 78704.

Can I visit and meet the parents?

Yes. Visits are by appointment only, and at pickup you can meet your puppy's parents and see where they were raised. We are happy to arrange a visit once your adoption conversation is underway.

How much does delivery cost?

Transportation costs are separate from the adoption price and depend on distance and method. They are quoted transparently before any journey is booked, with no surprises.

Do you ship internationally?

We consider international placements on a case-by-case basis, subject to the import regulations of the destination country. Additional documentation, quarantine requirements, and extended timelines may apply.

After Adoption

What support do you offer after adoption?

We remain a phone call away for the life of your dog — for questions, milestones, and any concern, large or small. Our responsibility does not end at placement.

What should I do in the first week?

Keep the home calm, establish a consistent routine for meals and sleep, and schedule a 72-hour wellness check with your veterinarian. Our Adoption Guide walks you through the first days in detail, and we are always a message away.

What comes with my puppy?

Your puppy arrives with ABKC and UKC registration papers, a complete health record, a microchip registered to you, a starter supply of food, a familiar scented blanket from home, and our two-year genetic health guarantee.

Will you take a dog back if I can no longer keep it?

Yes. If circumstances ever prevent you from keeping a dog we have bred, we will always take that dog back, no questions asked. A Haven puppy is a lifetime commitment on both sides.
