Training the calm, confident companion
The American Bully was bred to be a companion first, and training should honor that — gentle, consistent, and built on trust, not force.
Start early, go slow
Begin with name recognition, eye contact, and handling exercises the moment your puppy comes home. Short, positive sessions of five minutes, several times a day, beat one long lesson.
Positive reinforcement only
Reward the behavior you want with calm praise, treats, and play. The Bully is an eager, sensitive partner — harsh corrections erode the trust that makes training work.
Socialization
Expose your puppy to new people, sounds, surfaces, and environments one at a time, always at a pace they can handle. Calm, positive exposures now shape a confident adult.
Consistency is everything
Everyone in the home should use the same cues and the same rules. Predictability is what builds a relaxed, well-mannered dog.
